Way Xieng Thong, also known as the Temple of the Golden City, is a Buddhist temple (Wat), located to the north of Luang Prabang. Wat Xieng Thong is one of the most important Lao monasteries, that depicts the spirit of religion and royalty and displays various traditional artworks. There are over twenty structures on the temple grounds such as residences, shrines, pavilions, a sim, and a garden of flowers. Build by the Lao king, Setthathirath, in 1560, this was where the Lao kings were crowned and is thus a beautiful building suited to that purpose.
