La Pan Tan Commune

La Pan Tan Commune in Mu Cang Chai (Yen Bai) lies at an altitude of ~2,000 m, featuring 700–2,200 hectares of terraced rice fields skillfully created by the H’Mong people over generations.

Nestled in the heart of Mu Cang Chai District, La Pan Tan Commune is famed for its breathtaking terraced rice fields, carved into the hillsides by generations of the H’mong ethnic people. These fields are not only a symbol of agricultural ingenuity but also a living cultural heritage, attracting travelers with their layered beauty and seasonal charm. Recognized as part of a national heritage site in 2007, the terraces of La Pan Tan span across rolling mountains, offering one of the most iconic landscapes in Vietnam’s northwest.

From May to June, the fields shimmer like mirrors during the water season, while from September to October, they transform into golden waves of ripened rice. Visitors can trek through the hills, interact with local communities, and capture postcard-perfect photographs from Mam Xoi Hill – the most famous viewpoint in the area. Whether you're a nature lover, a photographer, or a cultural explorer, La Pan Tan promises an unforgettable experience rooted in harmony between people and land.
