Savannakhet also known as Kaysone Phomvihane, which is also the name of the former president, is the capital city of the Savannakhet province. It is the second largest city in Laos. There are tons of decaying French colonial buildings within the town near the Mekong River. Within the city itself there is little to do, but in the neighboring areas are many sights to visit such as temples, churches, the former presidents house and even a mosque.
