Travel to Laos by boat
If you want to enter Laos by boat from Thailand you can do so at Houai Xay, in Bokeo province. You will have to take a short ride with a ferry across the Mekong River, many people will go directly to the popular Luang Prabang, but you can also head more north to Luang Namtha in a two day journey.
If you decide to go to Luang Namtha a memorable experience will await you. you can take a boat through a lush forest with an overnight stay in a boatmen's home, or you can use a regular boat service from Pakse towards the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Wat Phou as well as go towards the Four Thousand Islands in the south
