Ao Dai Museum

Ao Dai Museum in Ho Chi Minh City is dedicated to preserving and honoring the cultural heritage of Vietnam’s traditional long dress. Located by the river in District 9 (now part of Thu Duc City), it features a serene, green space with traditional Vietnamese architecture.

The Ao Dai Museum officially opened its doors on January 22, 2014, as a unique space dedicated to showcasing the history of the Vietnamese Ao Dai throughout the nation's past. More than just a place to display artifacts, the museum serves as a rare archive that gathers valuable images, materials, and documents related to the traditional Ao Dai.

In addition to its main exhibition on the Ao Dai through the ages, the museum features garments worn by prominent figures who have contributed to the country in various fields. Special themed areas such as “Ao Dai as Cultural Heritage,” “Bau Truc Pottery,” and exhibitions connecting the Ao Dai to UNESCO-recognized intangible heritage like Quan Ho, Vi Giam, and Don Ca Tai Tu enrich the visitor experience. Each corner of the museum tells a meaningful story, helping to promote Vietnamese identity globally.

The museum was initiated by artist and designer Si Hoang, and since 2015, has been owned and operated by Vietnam Impression Joint Stock Company. It is one of only two private museums under the specialized museum group of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports. With thoughtful investment and long-term vision, the Ao Dai Museum has become not only a cultural destination but also a symbol of preserving and honoring Vietnam’s national heritage in the modern era.
