Amarapura Overview
Amarapura was a former capital city in the early 19th century. Some fascinating structures are in this city such as, the Maha Gandhayon Kyaung Monastery, where thousands of monks come daily to receive their food, and the U Bein Bridge, which is the longest teak bridge in the world, created by using the teak from an old palace during the relocation of the capital city.
Amarapura, the City of Immortality, is currently a township of the Mandalay region due to urban sprawl, however the city is not as busy as the Mandalay which makes exploring a pleasant trip, and small trip to the west leads you to the Mingun Pahtodawgyi, which is an purposely unfinished stupa that was supposed to become a majestic monument
